Rhino Security Named UK Micro Business of the Year at The Savoy

Our Managing Director, James Hamerton, travelled to London to attend the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) National Awards. 

Having been named Micro Business of the Year at the FSB East of England Awards, we were invited to represent the region at the national finals, and we went along simply looking forward to celebrating alongside fellow regional winners from across the UK.

What happened next was something none of us quite expected. Rhino Security came home with two national awards!

A double win on the national stage

We are incredibly proud to have received the following awards at the FSB Small Business Growth Awards, held at The Savoy in London:

  1. FSB National Micro Business of the Year
  2. HSBC Customer Champion Award

The evening brought together some of the UK’s most ambitious and inspiring small businesses, with keynote speeches from Sara Davies MBE, Dragons’ Den entrepreneur and founder of Crafter’s Companion, and Martin McTague OBE, National Chair of the Federation of Small Businesses. 

The messages from the stage were simple but powerful: get comfortable with being uncomfortable, be brave enough to bring in people who are better than you, and always know your numbers. The kind of advice that cuts through.

The story behind the recognition

Rhino Security was founded in 1982 and has been a family business ever since. James took over from his father Tony three and a half years ago, inheriting a company with a strong reputation and more than three decades of expertise behind it.

Since then, we have grown the team from six to nine employees, increased annual turnover to more than £2 million, and completed over 3,500 projects every year. Our digital transformation has driven an 81% increase in transactions since 2022, while our 96.1% renewal rate on annual service contracts reflects the trust our customers continue to place in us, year after year.

We have worked hard to evolve from a traditional family business into a digitally driven, scalable operation, but always with the same commitment to quality and customer service that has defined Rhino Security since day one.

In James’s own words

“To receive national recognition from both the Federation of Small Businesses and HSBC is a real pinch-me moment. When I travelled to London, I genuinely didn’t expect to be standing on stage accepting two awards.

Three and a half years ago, I took over a business with a fantastic reputation built over more than 30 years by my father. While we’ve worked hard to modernise and grow the business, none of this would have been possible without the strong foundation he created.

This recognition belongs to our entire team. There have been challenges, difficult decisions and plenty of moments outside our comfort zone, but we’ve stayed focused on building a great team, improving the customer experience and continually looking for ways to improve.”

What this means for our customers

The HSBC Customer Champion Award is the one that means the most to us in many ways, because it reflects something we have never been willing to compromise on. Whether we are supplying a residential driveway bollard or delivering a large-scale hostile vehicle mitigation project, every customer deserves the same level of care, expertise and quality of finish.

Our 4.9/5 rating on Feefo and a 96.1% service contract renewal rate tell us we are getting that right, and we are genuinely grateful to every customer who has taken the time to leave a review or continued to trust us with their security year after year.

This achievement belongs to our team, our customers and our partners. We are proud of how far Rhino Security has come, and we are excited about everything still to come as we work towards our goal of becoming the UK’s most trusted provider of premium security perimeter solutions.
